Investment in Flow Cytometry unlocks the secrets of single cells
Ardena, a specialist pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), has announced a breakthrough investment in its Flow Cytometry services, greatly expanding their scientific capabilities.
“We can now provide our customers with much broader bio-analytical services,” explained Gerjan Kemperman, Ardena COO. “This expertise gives us the ability to unlock the enormous potential for information from single cells providing our clients with the full bio-analytical package,” he said.
This new capability is in large part thanks to the appointment of Arjan Kol at Ardena’s Bioanalysis centre in Assen, Netherlands. Arjan is an expert in Flow Cytometry, a fluorescence-based technology enabling high-throughput single cell measurements of multiple biological and functional parameters. It has various applications in novel drug discovery and development for areas such as immunology, oncology, molecular biology, infectious disease monitoring, bacteriology and virology.
“We can now perform highly sensitive measurements of preserved or fresh samples from a wide variety of biological matrices,” outlined Melloney Dröge, Business Unit Director at Ardena Assen, The Netherlands. “We can provide clients with single cell measurements of up to 14 parameters and fully automated measurements with consistent results from day to day,” she said.
Ardena is currently applying this expertise on new projects with leading players in the field providing analytical support at all stages of the drug development process, including for instance immunophenotyping and receptor occupancy assays, customized immunogenicity assays and PD analysis.
“Many clients, especially in the immunology field, now require cell level data not just data from fluids,” explained Arjan. “We can now provide flow cytometry as an integral part of our service offer, which is exciting for us and good for the progress of our clients’ drug development and clinical programs.”
