3-year Post-Doctoral Researcher Position in Plant Cell Death

Ghent, Belgium

The VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology (take a tour) is a world-leading plant science institution on Techlane Campus in Ghent, Belgium.

In the frame of the ERC CoG project EXECUT.ER, the Programmed Cell Death lab led by Moritz Nowack is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the molecular regulation of developmental programmed cell death (PCD) in the Arabidopsis thaliana root cap model system.

Although PCD processes are crucial for plant growth and development, the molecular pathways controlling initiation and execution of cell death are largely unknown. We are using the latest technologies including cell-type specific genome editing, single-cell transcriptomics, network modelling, proteomics and interactomics, microfluidics, and advanced live-cell imaging to discover and validate innovative concepts in PCD. Over the last years, we have developed the root cap as a powerful model system and generated datasets and an extensive toolkit that enabled us to make several key discoveries in the molecular regulation of plant PCD (see e.g. PMID: 24726156, 25457111, 26658336, 26438786, 26068468, 27298090, 30773319, 31562216, 33305496, 35316654, 35390283, 35608197).

We are looking for a talented and motivated candidate with a strong background in molecular, cell-, or developmental biology and a keen interest in advancing knowledge on developmental PCD as an exciting pioneering field in plant science.
