Position description

MRM Health is looking for BS level (or higher) Associate Scientist to join its Microbiology Development Team in Ghent, Belgium, and translate pre-clinical and translational research into novel and differentiating products and, ultimately, breakthrough microbial strategies for the treatment of conditions associated to impaired intestinal health and immune diseases.

  • Working (semi-)independently under supervision of senior members scientific staff to design and execute microbiological experiments, analyse data and present results. Experience with anaerobic fermentations and/or downstream processing is a plus.

  • Culturing and characterisation of bacteria including the preparation of media, reagents and samples for analysis.

  • Molecular biology, including DNA/RNA extraction and purification, qPCR, library preparation for sequencing. Experience in flow cytometry is a plus.

  • Analytical chemistry, including metabolite extraction and chromatography (HPLC, GC).

  • Identifying opportunities to optimize workflows and increase efficiency, including supporting SOP development

  • Providing clear and organized documents, records, and reports of experimental activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Biomedical Laboratory Technology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or closely related subject.

  • Theoretical and practical experience in Microbiology is a must, i.e. aseptic technique, microbial culturing. Experience with handling BSL-2 organisms and anaerobes is advantageous.

  • Working experience as a lab technician in a research or clinical environment is preferred.

  • Experience in a range of molecular biology techniques (e.g. qPCR)

  • Highly organized, methodical and motivated individual with good attention to detail. Must be a team player, able to work well in a group setting as well as independently in a fast-paced environment.
