Orionis Biosciences is a young start-up company focusing on new strategies to combat cancer. As a technology innovation-driven life sciences company, Orionis integrates a suite of proprietary chemical biology screening platforms and protein engineering systems to discover and design medicines with mechanisms of action rationally targeted at key disease vulnerabilities – the core mission of the company. Founded in 2015, Orionis has facilities both in Ghent (Technologiepark Zwijnaarde, Belgium) and in Boston (US).

Orionis Biosciences is looking for an experienced software engineer to join our transatlantic, interdisciplinary research team and help advance our science, technology and drug discovery & development efforts. This position is based at our Ghent, Belgium office.

The main focus and responsibility of this position is to join the development of the internal platforms for data collection and analysis, being the product owner of some of those and taking active part in the strategy and design of new tools and interfaces for the entire company.

Your Responsibilities

  • Support a multidisciplinary team to analyze, visualize, understand and interpret complex datasets

  • Develop, implement and validate data-analysis pipelines and tools for a variety of projects, under the supervision of our senior data science team

  • Processing, management and QC monitoring of the data from high-throughput screening projects

  • Support the R&D team to organize and manage the company knowledge base platforms

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences with extensive experience in (bio-)informatics or Bachelor’s degree in Informatics or Applied Mathematics with professional experience in a life sciences environment

  • Advanced programming skills (Python,…) and experience with databases (PostgreSQL,…)

  • Experience with AWS and Docker is a plus

  • Strong interest in drug discovery and development

  • Analytical mind with good problem-solving skills

  • Detail-oriented, well organized and able to work independently

  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude

  • Self-motivated and committed team player with a great sense of responsibility and a flexible attitude

  • Fluent in written and spoken English
