We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated and proactive Genomic Data Analyst to join our Science organization and be part of our drive towards the next generation of crops. In this role, you will be mostly involved in building and analyzing genomics data sets focussing on the identification of genes and regulatory elements across our core crops (maize, soy). You will support both the scientific strategy of the project, including experimental design as well as the hands on computational analysis. 

In this role you will be part of an interdisciplinary team of molecular geneticists, data scientists, and software engineers to prioritize targets for modification in crop genomes. The position will be based in Ghent, Belgium. 


  • Design, implement, execute and coordinate scientific tasks and activities related to the discovery of regulatory elements  

  • Bring novel insights on new, state-of-the-art genomics technologies and analytical tools, and how to integrate these into the project

  • Analyse existing and new genomics data (such as WGS, WGBS, ATACseq, RNAseq, HiC, etc) generated both externally and internally in addition to genome editing data in crops and single cells

  • Collaborate with wet-lab bench scientists on both the experimental design to generate specific data sets, troubleshooting, analysis and feedback to wet-lab scientist to improve experimental design 

  • Build and maintain custom bioinformatics pipelines and reports to enable maximal agility in the organisation

  • Proactively identify gaps and find solutions to improve the accuracy and efficiency of our data analyses

  • Maintain detailed and organized records of your work, project data you generate and other information as needed

  • Work with colleagues such as bioinformaticians and other scientists to deliver high quality, high-throughput data and analyses and troubleshoot and develop effective solutions when problems occur

  • Participate in scientific discussions and present research outcomes to peers and management


  • Phd in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics Biology, Plant Breeding, Genetics, or other relevant scientific field or a Msc with 3 years of relevant experience 

  • Experience with data science tools {Python, R}, software development / programming practices and computational infrastructure 

  • Hands-on experience with analysis of omics data sets

  • Understanding of molecular biology and bioinformatics concepts, processes, and tools

  • Ability to rapidly summarize data, communicate results, and act quickly and efficiently 

  • Ability to teach concepts or explain your work to a wide variety of audiences 

  • Pro-active in identifying what needs to be done, ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and handle ambiguity gracefully

  • Strong track record of developing creative solutions to complex problems

  • Strategic thinking, willingness to be bold and take risks

  • An efficient and well organized approach to deliver high quality results on time.
