The successful candidate will have substantial experience in managing laboratories in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry although applicants with relevant experience from larger academic or charitable organisations are also considered. He/she will ideally have a scientific lab-based background and proven the ability to effectively manage laboratory facilities. This role will require outstanding interpersonal, organisation and communication skills. This is a key position for eTheRNA as we are moving to new facilities in Ghent by the end of 2021 whilst maintaining our HQ in Niel.

This role will focus mainly on the Ghent facility but is a shared role with the facility in Niel. As a Laboratory Facilities coordinator, you will be responsible for ensuring that the laboratories are safe, operate smoothly and enable the laboratory scientists to focus on science.

Responsibilities & duties

The Laboratory Facilities Coordinator’s duties shall include, but not be limited to:

  • Responsible for welcoming new starters by providing safety introduction, site-specific training, etc

  • Keep track of and arrange facility services, equipment maintenance and repairs, in cooperation with laboratory scientists and guidance by the technical manager

  • Intervene in small technical issues

  • Point of contact between building management (external) and eTheRNA personnel

  • Responsible for efficient Laboratory stock monitoring, ordering and management

  • Support laboratory personnel with EHS topics, e.g. conduct and follow-up appropriate risk assessments and ensure risk mitigation strategy is in place and executed

  • Coaching on adherence to local lab safety legislation of all levels of lab personnel and management, in cooperation with the prevention advisor and the external EHS support company

  • Present reports and feedback to senior site leadership

Job requirements

Education

Degree or other professional qualification in the scientific field with previous hands-on lab-based experience

Experience

Proven operational track record in laboratory maintenance and laboratory management for several years

Other qualifications

  • Knowledge of Belgian EHS regulations

  • Broad technical knowledge is a benefit
