To strengthen our valuable team of dedicated employees, Biotalys is looking for a Research Associate Process Development.

 

Scope of your job

As “Research Associate Process Development” you will join the Biotalys development team for the lab-scale production and purification of AGROBODY™ bioactives in scope of process development and generation of material for use in formulation experiments, (bio)assays and field trials.

 Key activities:

  • Assist in setting up fermentations for microbial expression of AGROBODYTM bioactives using different types of host organisms and learn the impact the versatile factors have on the production efficiency;

  • Perform bench scale purification of the AGROBODY™ bioactives out of the microbial cultures using a wide range of techniques and equipment such as chromatography and filtration techniques;

  • Prepare media for fermentation and buffers for chromatography and filtration experiments;

  • Prepare and analyze samples using different techniques such as SDS-PAGE, capillary electrophoreses, HPLC,...;

  • Provide input to optimize existing protocols, experiments and processes;

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the workflows in the lab to ensure a maximum output of the different teams;

  • Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced;

  • Participate in functional and project teams.

 

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry or equivalent;

  • Basic knowledge on microbiology, fermentation and purification;

  • Hands-on expertise with fermentation and/or protein purification is desirable;

  • Experience with analytical methods for protein characterization is an advantage;

  • Creative when it comes to finding solutions for experimental challenges;

  • Interest in working in a development oriented environment;

  • Hands-on, pro-active and problem-solving oriented;

  • High sense of quality, accuracy and detail;

  • Eager to investigate and learn;

  • Able to work in team, but also autonomously when needed;

  • Passionate and a positive mindset;

  • Good reporting and communication skills.
