Position description

MRM Health is looking for a BS level (or higher) Associate Scientist to join its Microbiology Discovery Research Team in Ghent, Belgium, and translate preclinical and translational research into novel and differentiating products and, ultimately, breakthrough microbial strategies for the treatment of conditions associated to impaired intestinal health and immune diseases.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

·         Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment including anaerobic chambers, biosafety cabinets and automated machinery

·         Working (semi-)independently to develop, validate and implement new in vitro assays to screen bacterial strains and study mechanisms underlying the efficacy of microbial interventions in the treatment of a variety of disorders, analyse the ensuing data and present results

·         Aerobic and anaerobic culturing, isolation and characterization of bacteria including the preparation of media, reagents and samples for analysis

·         Metabolite extraction and chromatography

·         Molecular biology, including DNA/RNA extraction and purification, qPCR, library preparation for sequencing, and flow cytometry

·         Identifying opportunities to optimize workflows and increase efficiency, including supporting SOP development

·         Providing clear and organized documents, records, and reports of experimental activities

 

Required Qualifications

BS (or higher) degree in microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry or closely related field; experience in industry or equivalent experience is a plus.

Research experience with microbiological techniques is essential, e.g. aseptic techniques, microbial culturing, isolation and characterization, fermentation technologies.

Experience with handling BSL-2 organisms and anaerobes is a plus.

Highly organized, methodical and motivated individual with good attention to detail. Must be a team player, able to work well in a group setting as well as independently in a fast-paced environment.
