To strengthen our valuable team of dedicated employees, Biotalys is looking for a (Senior) Researcher Lead Characterization.


Scope of your job

Biotalys is looking for a motivated, proactive and hands-on person to join the Lead Characterization Team as a (Senior) Researcher. Within this position, you will be involved in the characterization and selection of AGROBODY™ bioactive candidates against key crop pests and disease pathogens.


Key responsibilities

  • Develop and perform different in vitro functional bioassays to screen and functionally characterize lead candidate molecules towards their activity against pathogenic fungi, bacteria and/or insects.

  • Design operating protocols for in vitro assays and execute experiments accordingly.

  • Analyze, interpret and report the experimental results and propose follow-up activities.

  • Troubleshoot lab methods and instruments when needed.

  • Present and discuss results and findings with colleagues in diverse team meetings.

  • Contribute actively to the set-up of the lead characterization team by being proactive and proposing ideas for improvement:


What we are looking for

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in life sciences, biology, biotechnology or related discipline.

  • At least 2 years of work experience in the field of fungal biology and/or microbiology is required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on working experience with bioassays for plant pathogenic fungi or bacteria.

  • Knowledge in microscopy is an asset.

  • Ability to generate new ideas, design experiments, develop assays and optimize protocols.

  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects and communicate well with the team.

  • Creative thinker, eager to investigate and learn.

  • Sense for accuracy and scientific details:

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to manage priorities based on team deliverables.

  • A team-oriented and proactive attitude, flexibility and enthusiasm.

  • Openness to giving and receiving constructive feedback.

  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and orally.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), experience with R is an asset.
