Union Biometrica is looking for a field service engineer to support our life-science instruments in Europe. A key role is diagnosing instrument problems and solving them. You will work with customers both remotely and at their locations traveling throughout Europe and abroad for installations, support, and maintenance. Good communication skills with people with a variety of backgrounds and technical skills is necessary. Our instruments are used throughout the world in academic and commercial settings performing many different applications.
The right candidate will join a small team of high-energy people manufacturing and selling sophisticated, automated instruments used in cutting-edge biomedical research such as drug discovery, toxicology and genetics research. This hands-on position will allow you to test and solve problems with mechanical, electrical, optical, fluidic and software systems. You will interact with engineers, scientists and customers with a variety of backgrounds. You will be asked to test and solve problems with our instruments, document requested engineering changes, maintain demonstration and test instruments, and tryout and test new software and designs.
This position is based out of our European support center in Aalst, Belgium.
This is a full-time position.
Skills & Experience
We are looking for a service engineer that brings:
5+ years of working in the field diagnosing and solving technical problems.
Excellent hands-on technical skills.
Good problem-solving and debugging skills that may involve mechanical, optical, software or electrical components.
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
At ease solving technical problems both remotely and on-site.
Responsive and good at guiding customers working through problems over the phone and on Zoom.
Curious about the scientific research that our instruments are used to solve.
European and other international travel required. Travel is 40-80% per month.
We are a small company so everybody “wears multiple hats” and is highly visible. In this position you will be involved with new and existing instruments. Testing, debugging, documenting and solving is all part of this versatile job.

We are a small team of highly motivated scientists & engineers best known for our specialty flow cytometers for high-speed analysis and sorting of objects (e.g. cell clusters, C. elegans, zebrafish, mosquitoes) which are too large or fragile for traditional flow cytometers.
