Protealis develops superior seeds and seed technologies for legume crops to be better adapted to the European environment. Our mission is to be the best germplasm provider for sustainable plant proteins for Europe.

By combining innovation in breeding and nitrogen fixation Protealis creates new opportunities for European farmers to help overcome Europe’s protein deficit and provide local and sustainable sourcing options for the growing number of producers of meat and dairy alternatives.

Why we need you?

At Protealis we maximally want to make best possible use of the synergy between legume species and their symbiont soil bacteria in order to maximize yield and quality. On the one hand, we aim to generate superior legume varieties, adapted to the Northwestern European climate, while we also explore, test, and optimize different coating solutions for such bacterial symbionts. In this context we are looking for a Microbiology Upscaling Engineer who will lead the next steps in the industry-proof scaling up of the fermentation processes to support bringing our technology to market.

What we need you to do?

  • Plan, design and execute fermentation and seed coating processes in small scale benchtop experiments to execute our strategy timely.

  • Service as the main point of contact with research and production partners to coordinate the scaling-up of fermentation processes.

  • Lead the technical development and scale-up of agricultural inoculation products developed by the R&D team and make the bridge to sales.

  • Develop efficient workflows on how to bring our microbial technologies to market, identify best practices, routines, and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of output.

  • Organize, design and supervise field demonstrations and microbial production projects.

  • Manage cost and time constraints.

  • Perform and oversee quality assurance of fermentation batches.

  • Pro-actively collaborate with the leadership team to ensure we are set up for success.

What can you expect?

  • To be part of a dynamic, entrepreneurial team that combines a determination to achieve with fun.

  • To have a job that has direct impact on the success of the company and the profitability and sustainability of our agriculture.

  • To be empowered and accountable for your achievements while being supported by the whole team.

What experience are we seeking?

  • You are educated as master or bioscience engineer in a relevant field and/or have at least 3 years of related experience in microbial fermentation technologies.

  • You have basic understanding of plant biology and plant beneficial microorganisms.

  • Experience in quality control assurance is a plus.

Who fits our team?

  • You have a strong ‘can-do’ attitude and like to see obstacles as an opportunity to try something new.

  • You get your energy from achieving something as a team and feel accountable for the team results as well as your own contribution to the team.

  • You can work independently but also know when to reach out for help.

  • You dare to be different and speak up your mind.

  • Purpose in your job matters to you and you see your values reflected in Protealis’ mission.

  • You communicate well and are always respectful of others.

  • You are comfortable with a diverse set of tasks and techniques.

  • We value people for who they are and expect you do too. We embrace diversity regardless age, gender, belief, origin or orientation.
