Who We are:

Meep is developing a doctor-at-home platform, allowing individuals to have on-the-spot access to key health parameters. We can offer clinical-lab performance with the ease-of-use of a pregnancy test at a consumer price tag. The patented silicon photonics chip technology has the necessary features to bring health monitoring into your home. It allows for sensitive detection of a wide variety of bioanalytes, while being able to do so in a quantitative way.

 

Role:

The Microfluidics Engineer will be involved in the development of the Meep lab-on-chip detection system and specific product development. This involves several aspects of the integration: microfluidics, bio-assay development, biological fluid dynamics, bonding, optical and mechanical tolerance optimization, sample handling and biofunctional coupling. This will involve planning, designing, executing, analyzing and documenting experiments.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support the design of microfluidic cartridges.

  • Performing biological assay experiments gathering data to support the development of specific assays on the Meep technology.

  • Develop bonding and packaging techniques for cartridge integration.

  • Characterizing the complex sample and the sample conditions inside the cartridge (e.g. fluid dynamics)

  • Optimize the optical and mechanical alignment and tolerances of the cartridge and read-out system.

  • Participate in the planning of experiments of the assigned projects.

  • Set up data analysis frameworks and perform the analysis.

  • Present the data in internal meetings.

  • Provide suggestions on improving experimental setup.

  • Provide suggestions on improving the assay performance.

  • Record all plans, data and results according to internal procedures.

  • Participate in lab organization, such as maintaining a clean and safe lab environment, cleaning and calibrating equipment, maintaining consumable and reagent stocks etc.

  • Follow internal Meep quality management system processes.

 

Experience and skills

  • (Bio-)Engineering Sciences Master or Master in (Bio-)Sciences degree with experience in microfluidics or similar/PhD in a relevant field (microfluidics, biosensors,…)

  • 2+ years of experience in industry or academia with microfluidic systems

  • 2+ years of experience in industry or academia with IVD system development is an asset

  • Knowledge and training in the design of microfluidic systems

  • Understanding of the physics of microfluidics and biological detection systems.

  • Experience with the study of fluid dynamics of biological fluids is an asset

  • Expertise with CAD software such as Fusion or similar

  • Expertise with data analysis software such as Matlab, Python or similar

  • Proficiency in modelling is an asset

  • Experience in developing a product according to FDA and CE-IVD regulations is an asset

  • Experience with working in a GMP environment is an asset

  • Knowledge of various immunoassay detection techniques is an asset

  • An interest in biological detection systems

  • An interest in novel technologies in early stage

  • Excellent understanding of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Hands-on mentality

  • Good communication and reporting skills and proficient in English

  • Ability to think and adapt to a rapidly changing environment and demands

  • Capable of high performance in independent work

  • Well organized, Eye for detail, work accurately and aim for qualitative work
