AcademicLabs, a leading scientific intelligence and expert identification solution, partners with BioRN, the science and industry cluster of the Rhine-Main-Neckar region around Heidelberg, one of Germany’s strongest biotech hubs. The partnership will facilitate expert-finding and new collaborations within the BioRN member community, as well as highlight members to external parties looking to search, identify, and leverage expertise within the region. AcademicLabs presents an overview—in an integrated, user-friendly search platform—of all new developments and emerging technologies on any topic, while providing a map to key experts within the region. This collaboration will support the cluster’s ability to identify and fuse expertise, forge new connections, and establish collaborations within the region.

BioRN has more than 140 members, including top universities, research institutions, and technology parks. Ten global pharmaceutical companies, including Bayer AG, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Merck, have R&D sites in the Rhine-Main-Neckar region or are active in the BioRN network. The ecosystem is complemented by a large range of small and medium-sized enterprises as well as local government organizations and interest groups.

AcademicLabs will allow BioRN’s members to

  • discover all ongoing and past scientific research of the region

  • facilitate systematic scouting activities of all key partners in the region

  • speed up the external scientific collaborations process

“Together with AcademicLabs, we are now able to provide a well-defined portrait of the research landscape in our cluster," said Friedemann Loos, Innovation Manager, BioRN. “Through this dynamic platform, potential partners, scientists, and investors are easily searchable, supporting our ultimate goal of leveraging the region’s great innovation potential,” said Loos.

“We are committed to moving science forward through the facilitation of new connections and collaborations that may never have come about without the clear and precise picture of the research landscape made possible by AcademicLabs. The network’s expertise is directly searchable through an integration with the AcademicLabs interface on the BioRN website, a tool both internal and external parties can make use of,” said Arne Smolders, CEO and Founder of AcademicLabs.

BioRN and AcademicLabs partner to enable the biotech cluster’s 140 members to identify key experts, find collaborators, and see a clear picture of all scientific activities in the Rhine-Main-Neckar region. The goal of the partnership is to boost visibility of the internationally renowned, bioscience hub by connecting members' expertise in the region with the external scientific community.

“In a highly productive region like the Rhine-Main-Neckar region, scientific progress is moving fast and constantly changing. Finding expertise in the region with a clear backdrop of the research landscape has never existed before. With AcademicLabs’ all-in-one platform, BioRN members gain unprecedented visibility to both one another and to a global audience of potential collaborators, external innovation teams, and investors—opening possibilities never imagined,” commented Smolders.
