SwiftPharma to Join Groundbreaking €41 Million PharmECO Project.

SwiftPharma is delighted to announce that its participation in the groundbreaking €41 million project, PharmECO - Advancing Safe and Sustainable by Design Practices in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, has officially been approved!

This trailblazing initiative, co-funded under the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI JU Call 4, Topic 6), is set to revolutionize pharmaceutical manufacturing by:

(i) implementing cutting-edge, sustainable, and scalable manufacturing technologies, and

(ii) establishing harmonized environmental sustainability assessment systems for pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals.

To achieve the ambitious goals of this project, SwiftPharma will join forces with 30 esteemed international partners, including universities, research institutes, governmental bodies, SMEs, and major pharmaceutical companies, each bringing their unique expertise.

SwiftPharma's contribution:

SwiftPharma will play a crucial role in the PharmECO project by providing valuable insights into the sustainability assessment of plant-based biomanufacturing through the scaling of its HyperXpress transient expression technology. The company will collaborate with industry partners to produce three of its model proteins: an antiviral lectin, a monoclonal antibody biosimilar, and a prostate cancer vaccine across different expression platforms. By comparing sustainability hotspots—specific areas within a system, process, product lifecycle, or supply chain that have significant environmental, social, or economic impacts—SwiftPharma aims to identify and prioritize actions and resources to effectively enhance sustainability performance.
